The VMI Keydets host the Furman Paladins in SoCon action on Monday night.
The VMI Keydets have been a big scoring offense in prior seasons and needed to outscore opponents to succeed. Points haven’t been as plentiful this year as the Keydets dropped four in a row before coming to life in an 83-76 victory versus visiting Samford as a 6.5 point underdog Thursday. The Bulldogs connected at 44% and sank seven more free throws but VMI prevailed on 47.5% from the floor and a 13-30 effort on threes. QJ Peterson led all scorers with 34 points and five yanks on 13-21 which included 8-13 from distance. Trey Chapman chipped in with nine points and five pulls but this was really a two man attack.

The Furman Paladins have proven to be a team that should not be overlooked and defending SoCon champion Wofford found that out. The Terriers fell to Furman 63-62 Saturday as a four point road dog. The Paladins had a 45%-42% edge in marksmanship that featured for more Wofford threes while Furman sand a few more foul shots and an extra basket. The Paladins received 17 points and five yanks from Stephen Croone with Devin Sibley and Kris Acox netting eleven points with Acox grabbing eight rebounds. John Davis III tossed in eight points but the offense didn’t get much help from several players that saw substantial floor time.
Furman are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 vs. Southern and the over is 9-3 in their last 12 vs. Southern. VMI are 1-11 ATS in their last 12 Monday games and are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games overall while going 1-7 ATS in their last 8 vs. Southern. I like what I have seen from Furman but it takes a lot of nerve to lay chalk with them on the road…
