The UC Riverside Highlanders tangle with the Cal Poly Mustangs in a crucial Big West bout.
The good news for the UC Riverside Highlanders is they have won two of three and the bad news is they are 2-4 in the Big West and need to keep winning to become a factor in the conference. The Highlanders come off a 74-72 victory versus visiting Long Beach State as a 4.5 point home dog. Defense was optional with the 49ers holding a 54%-51% shooting edge including a 13-24 effort from long range. UCR went 9-19 on threes and sank eight more free throws to squeeze out the win. Taylor Johns was the Highlanders offensive star with 26 points and six pulls with Jaylen Bland scoring 16 points. Secean Johnson scored eleven points while Menno Dijkstra and Gentrey Thomas netted eight points apiece.

The Cal Poly Mustangs are in the same boat as their counterparts as they sit at 2-3 in the conference and want to avoid falling too far behind the pack. The Mustangs have won two of there after downing Cal State Fullerton 79-69 as they extended a two point halftime lead with a late run. Both teams sank shots in the 41% range with CP going 10-24 from beyond the arc with seven more free throws securing the win. Reese Morgan led the attack with 17 points with Luke Meikle and David Nwaba netting 13 points apiece. Ridge Shipley tossed in 12 while Joel Awich and Brian Bennett chipped in with eight points apiece.
Cal Poly are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games overall and the underdog is 19-6-1 ATS in the last 26 meetings. I don’t see Cal Poly losing but this seems like too many points to me…
