Many people expected the Old Dominion Monarchs to challenge for position in the top four of the CUSA but they will need to string together some wins. The Monarchs have won two of three after dropping Florida Atlantic 78-66 on the road Thursday as a seven point favorite. The better shooting team won with the Owls held to 42% including 5-19 on threes wile ODU connected at 50% and sank seven more free throws. Trey Baker poured in a game high 28 points with six pulls on 9-19 accuracy with Denzell Taylor adding 16 points and eight boards. Brandan Stith netted 14 points and hauled in 13 rebounds while Aaron Bacote chipped in with nine points.

The Florida International Golden Panthers are probably not on the radar of most people but at 5-3 in the CUSA they look dangerous. The Golden Panthers had won consecutive contests before dropping a 72-69 decision to visiting Charlotte on Thursday night. The 49ers only hit at 40% but they totaled seven more looks with a few more free throws and threes to outlast the 49% marksmanship of the Golden Panthers. Daviyon Draper carried the Florida International attack with 24 points and seven boards on 10-15 from the floor with Adrian Diaz adding 17 points and eight blocks on 7-10. Donte McGill tossed in 13 points and snagged six boards with the rest of the team contributing 15 points.
