The Vikings allowed the Crusaders to shoot 50.0% from the field and was outrebounded by Valparaiso by a 41-22 margin. The UIC Flames lost their 10th straight game and dropped to 2-18 (0-9 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Youngstown State Penguins, 82-78, this past Thursday. UIC made a strong comeback after being down by a 49-31 margin at halftime but Youngstown State hit key FT’s late in the game that allowed them to hang on for the victory. UIC struggled offensively as they shot just 40.0% from the field, 26.3% (5-19) from beyond the arc, and 54.8% (17-31) from the FT line. The Flames allowed the Penguins to shoot 51.9% (14-27) from beyond the arc and outrebounded Youngstown State by a 51-41 margin. Leading the way for UIC was Dikembe Dixson who had a double-double with 32 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. On the season, the Flames have been led by Dikembe Dixson (17.3 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.7 apg), Dominique Matthews (9.7 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.1 apg), and Tai Odiase (8.9 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.5 bpg). Offensively, UIC is averaging 66.3 ppg on 38.8% shooting from the field and 29.7% shooting from beyond the arc. The Flames average 4.3 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.80. Defensively, UIC is allowing their opponents to average 78.1 ppg on 43.7% shooting from the field. The Flames average 4.8 blocks per game and have a turnover margin of -3.2.
The Vikings are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing home record and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss. The Flames are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 vs. Horizon League opponents.
Going into the season, Cleveland State had a lot of questions on the offensive end after losing their top three scorers in Trey Lewis, Anton Grady, and Charlie Lee and unfortunately for the Vikings, they are still are looking for the answers as they rank 338th in the country in scoring offense and 300th in FG %. UIC has also had a long season with only two wins on the year and is a team that struggles on both the offensive and defensive end. Cleveland State was able to dominate UIC at home earlier in the season, however, UIC has been playing better as of late at home and if Dikembe Dixson can continue to put the ball in the basket as he has over the last few games, I think the Flames will be able to cover with the points in this one. Take UIC and the points.
