The #23 Pittsburgh Panthers hope to avoid the upset bid of the Virginia Tech Hokies in Sunday action.
The Virginia Tech Hokies 12-9 record doesn’t jump off the page at us but they have played the better competition well which hasn’t always been a strength. The Hokies have dropped three in a row following a 91-83 loss to visiting Louisville as a ten point home dog. VT simply struggled defensively with the Cardinals hitting at 52% including a 12-18 effort on threes which meant their own 45% accuracy and 4-15 mark from distance was not enough to win. Jalen Hudson gave Virginia Tech 27 points and seven boards followed by Seth Allen with 26 points on a combined 13-27. Zach LeDay was next in line with 20 points while Justin Bibbs contributed ten points.
USA TODAY Sports
The Pittsburgh Panthers have a 2-2 record over the last four contests which means they are barely clinging to a top 25 ranking. The Panthers return home after absorbing a 73-60 defeat at Clemson as a 1.5 point road dog on Wednesday as they never recovered from a 40-25 at the break. The offense never found the shooting touch at 38% and the defense allowed the Tigers to sink shots at 47% with 24 personals turned in to an 18-10 hole at the stripe. Michael Young poured in a game high 25 points and posted six boards but he was the lone Pitt double digit scorer. James Artis scored nine while James Robinson and Ryan Luther netted eight points each.
Pittsburgh are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 Sunday games and the over is 38-17 in their last 55 home games while the Panthers are 18-37 ATS in their last 55 home games. The Panthers win this but right or wrong I won’t give up all the points…
