The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks battle instate and conference rival the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns.
Although the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks have the Sun Belt crown on their minds they first need to shore up their spot in the top four. The Warhawks have been doing just that with four consecutive victories capped off by a 72-59 rout of visiting Texas State behind a strong second half. The Bobcats were held to 41.7% shooting and 4-16 on threes while UL Monroe burned the nets at 51% with a +10 on the backboards. Nick Coppola led all scorers with 26 points and five assists on 11-17 with Majok Deng adding 15 points and ten rebounds. Travis Munnings netted 12 points and grabbed seven boards but the entire seven man rotation did some damage.

The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns were picked by many to take over the Sun Belt although Arkansas-Little Rock is having something to say about that. The surging Ragin’ Cajuns have won six in a row after throttling a solid Texas Arlington squad 90-75 as a six point favorite behind a 48-33 second half to break open a tie game. The Mavericks connected at almost 47% but could not contain the UL Lafayette offense that scorched the nets at 54% with 16 more makes at the foul line. Shawn Long paced an explosive attack with a game high 22 points and 15 rebounds on 6-10 with Bryce Washington adding 16 points and nine boards. Jay Wright tossed in 13 points and Steven Wronkoski netted eleven as there was no shortage of scoring options.
The under is 8-3 in UL Lafayette last 11 home games and is 12-5 in their last 17 vs. Sun Belt while going 7-3 in their last 10 overall. Two hot teams squaring off with the Ragin’ Cajuns the Sun Belt preseason favorite as a big favorite. I think ULL wins but I’ll take the points…
