The Portland Pilots will travel to the Gersten Pavilion to take on the Portland Pilots this Saturday night in College Basketball action.
The Portland Pilots snapped their four game losing streak and improved to 10-15 (4-8 WCC) on the season after defeating the Pepperdine Waves, 73-70, this past Thursday. Portland was able to get up by a 39-29 margin at halftime and was able to hang on late thanks to some Pepperdine missed FT’s. Portland shot 47.4% from the field and 56.3% (9-16) from beyond the arc in the victory. The Pilots held the Waves to 37.3% shooting and was outrebounded by Pepperdine by a 49-39 margin. Leading the way for Portland was Alec Wintering who had 19 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and a steal. On the season, the Pilots have been led by Alec Wintering (18.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 5.4 apg), Bryce Pressley (13.7 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.4 spg), and D’Marques Tyson (10.4 ppg, 1.9 rpg). The Loyola Marymount Lions lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 10-13 (3-9 WCC) on the season after being defeated by the Gonzaga Bulldogs, 92-63, this past Thursday. Loyola Marymount had no answers for Gonzaga in the 1st half and couldn’t make a comeback after falling behind 47-26 at halftime. Loyola Marymount shot 40.7% from the field and 13.3% (2-15) from beyond the arc. The Lions allowed the Bulldogs to shoot 56.9% from the field and was outrebounded by Gonzaga by a 40-25 margin. Leading the way for Loyola Marymount was Adom Jacko who had 23 points, 7 rebounds, and an assist. On the season, the Lions have been led by Adom Jacko (16.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg), Brandon Brown (12.8 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 5.8 apg, 1.2 spg), and Steven Haney (9.7 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.2 apg). Offensively, Loyola Marymount is averaging 70.3 ppg on 41.3% shooting from the field and 33.1% shooting form three-point range. The Lions average 7.1 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.27. Defensively, Loyola Marymount is allowing their opponents to average 74.8 ppg on 45.7% shooting. The Lions average 7.2 steals per game and have a turnover ratio of 2.3.
The Pilots are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record however, is 0-9 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a losing straight up road record. The Lions are 25-52 ATS in their last 77 home games and 3-13 ATS in their last 16 vs. WCC opponents.
Portland has struggled as of late as they’ve lost 8 of their last 10 games and they continue to have difficulties on the defensive end as during their recent four game losing streak, they’ve allowed their opponents to average 84.0 ppg. Loyola Marymount played well during their non-conference schedule which included close losses to Boise State and Oregon State on the road, however, haven’t fared well in WCC play. Loyola Marymount had an off night on the offensive end at Portland earlier in the season but as Portland has struggled on the road, I think the Lions get their revenge against the Pilots and cover this small spread.
