The Central Michigan Chippewas will travel to the Convocation Center (MI) to take on the Eastern Michigan Eagles this Tuesday night in College Basketball action.
The Central Michigan Chippewas had their 4-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 13-10 (6-4 MAC West) on the season after being defeated by the Akron Zips, 92-87, this past Friday. Central Michigan was down by as many as 20 points in the 2nd half and although they used two big runs to cut the Zips lead to just four with 24 seconds left, couldn’t get any closer in their comeback attempt. Central Michigan shot 43.9% from the field and committed just 4 turnovers in the loss. The Chippewas allowed the Zips to shoot 49.2% from the field and 50.0% (16-32) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for Central Michigan was Luke Meyer who had 15 points and 8 rebounds. On the season, the Chippewas have been led by Braylon Rayson (16.7 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.0 spg), Chris Fowler (15.7 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 6.4 apg, 1.1 spg), and Rayshawn Simmons (13.5 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 5.3 apg). Offensively, Central Michigan is averaging 77.5 ppg on 45.4% shooting from the field and 35.9% shooting from beyond the arc. The Chippewas average 9.9 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.42. Defensively, Central Michigan is allowing their opponents to average 72.6 ppg on 44.4% shooting. The Eastern Michigan Eagles dropped to 11-12 (3-7 MAC West) on the season after being defeated by the Buffalo Bulls, 80-70, this past Saturday. Eastern Michigan held a 36-32 lead at halftime however, allowed Buffalo to go a 12-3 run late in the 2nd half to get back in the game and closed the Eagles out with an 8-0 run to finished the game. Eastern Michigan shot 40.7% from the field and 78.3% (18-23) from the FT line in the loss. The Eagles held the Bulls to 36.5% shooting from the field and loss the turnover battle by an 18-12 margin. Leading the way for Eastern Michigan was James Thompson IV who had a double-double with 18 points, 14 rebounds, 4 blocks, 1 assist, and a steal. On the season, the Eagles have been led by Raven Lee (15.7 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.5 spg), James Thompson IV (15.7 ppg, 11.0 rpg, 1.6 bpg), and Ty Toney (11.9 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.8 spg). Offensively, Eastern Michigan is averaging 78.9 ppg on 44.1% shooting from the field and 30.4% shooting from beyond the arc. The Eagles average 5.8 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.94. Defensively, Eastern Michigan is allowing their opponents to average 74.6 ppg on 40.8% shooting. The Eagles average 10.0 steals per game and have a turnover margin of 4.0.
The Chippewas are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall, however, just 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 road games. The Eagles are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Tuesday games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Central Michigan has played well as of late and although they gave up 92 points against a very good Akron team, the Chippewas have been playing better defense as of late as they held their opponents to an average of just 56.5 ppg during their recent 4-game winning streak. Eastern Michigan will try to keep the tempo up in this game and will continue to try and generate offense off turnovers as the Eagles rank 2nd in the country in steals and 9th in turnover margin. Eastern Michigan has been solid at home posting an 8-3 record, however, I think the Chippewas will get a big game from Chris Fowler and get the win to stay on top of the MAC West standings. Take Central Michigan and the points.
