The Rhode Island Rams snapped their two game losing streak and improved to 13-10 (5-5 A-10) on the season after defeating the LaSalle Explorers, 79-62, this past Saturday. Rhode Island was tied with LaSalle at halftime but used a strong offensive 2nd half to outscore the Explorers by a 50-33 margin in the victory. Rhode Island shot 53.6% from the field and 90.9% (10-11) from beyond the arc. The Rams allowed the Explorers to shoot 45.0% from the field and won the turnover battle by an 18-14 margin. Leading the way for Rhode Island was Jarvis Garrett who had 28 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. On the season, the Rams have been led by Jarvis Garrett (13.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 4.2 apg), Jared Terrell (13.0 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.3 spg), and Hassan Martin (11.7 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.4 bpg). Offensively, Rhode Island is averaging 70.0 ppg on 43.9% shooting from the field and 35.8% shooting from beyond the arc. The Rams average 6.7 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.99. Defensively, Rhode Island is holding their opponents to an average of 64.0 ppg on 42.3% shooting. The Rams average 5.0 blocks per game and have a rebound margin of 3.3.
The Patriots are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a double-digit loss at home and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS loss. The Rams are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 home games vs. a team with a losing road record however, just 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
George Mason has had a long season plagued with issues on the offensive side of the ball as they rank 309th in the country in scoring offense and 287th in FG%. Rhode Island once against has one of the better defenses in the A-10 however, have been a bit inconsistent on the offensive end and have averaged just 60.0 ppg in their last five losses. Rhode Island is generally one of the better teams at home in the country and although they don’t have E.C. Matthews who has been out for the season with a knee injury, I think the Rams defense will give George Mason offense all sorts of problems. The line has yet to be posted for this one but unless it’s an unreal number, I’m taking Rhode Island to cover.
