The New Mexico Lobos go on the road to face the Utah State Aggies on Tuesday night.
The New Mexico Lobos are right in the middle of the Mountain West race at 7-3 but suffered a 78-71, overtime loss at San Diego State that snapped a four game winning streak and hurt their chances at capturing the MWC title. This was back and forth throughout with the Aztecs 42.6%-33.8% shooting advantage being decisive as it added up to five more baskets in an otherwise even boxscore. Elijah Brown led the New Mexico offense with 23 points and five assists but he was just 4-20 form the field with Tim Williams right on his heels with 21 points and seven boards on 8-15. Cullen Neal and Xavier Adams netted seven points each but a winnable game went by the wayside because of poor shooting.

At 3-8 in the Mountain West the Utah State Aggies are out of the running for the conference crown as getting both ends of the floor on the same page hasn’t happened often enough. The Aggies have dropped eight of ten capped off by an 84-65 defeat at Wyoming Saturday where the Cowboys broke open a one point game on the strength of a 46-28 second half run. The Cowboys held a slight 50%-48% shooting edge but were an amazing 20-28 from beyond the arc to win easily. Jalen Moore paced Utah State with 17 points on 6-9 with Chris Smith tossing in 13 points on 6-9. Quinn Taylor netted ten points on 4-4 from the field but the Aggies perimeter defense was to blame here.
New Mexico are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 Tuesday games and are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 road games. The over is 20-7 in Utah State last 27 vs. Mountain West and is 21-8 in their last 29 overall while going 45-18-1 in their last 64 home games. The danger here is New Mexico has a hangover from losing to San Diego State…
