The Montana Grizzlies look to avoid the upset bid of the Southern Utah Thunderbirds Thursday.
The Southern Utah Thunderbirds are not the same team they were late last season but probably should be which is puzzling. The Thunderbirds have dropped six in a row where both ends of the floor have had some issues. SUU comes off of an 81-67 defeat to visiting Eastern Washington as a 9.5 point home dog. The Eagles took a nine point lead after 20 minutes and never let their guard down with 52% shooting an a 20-24 effort at the line carrying the day. Southern Utah could not keep pace on 43% accuracy despite an 11-23 mark on threes. Race Parsons paced the Thunderbirds with 18 points and seven boards with James McGee tossing in 15. Trey Kennedy and Christian Thompson combined for 17 points but the team had more issues defensively.

The Montana Grizzlies might be the team to beat in the Big Sky as they have arguably been the most consistent squad in the conference. The Grizzlies have won three of four after squeezing by Portland State 82-80 Saturday as a two point favorite. The Grizzlies came back from a nine point hole at the half with nearly 52% marksmanship and 13 more looks at the basket barely overcoming the blistering 61.7% accuracy of the Vikings. Martin Breunig saved Montana with a game high 32 points and ten rebounds on 13-14 from the floor with Walter Wright adding 17 points and five assists. Five others contributed between 5-7 points for some balance but this was won by Breunig.
