The Old Dominion Monarchs look to make a late charge in the CUSA with a win versus the North Texas Mean Green.
The North Texas Mean Green are in the middle of the CUSA standings which is probably the best case scenario when the playoffs begin so they can avoid facing a top squad in the first round. The Mean Green have won back to contests after knocking off visiting Louisiana Tech as a 5.5 point home dog. The Bulldogs led by ten at the half before UNT went on a 50-29 run over the final 20 minutes. La Tech hit shots at 42% and were done in by a 2-16 mark on threes while North Texas fired away at 52% and hit seven more free throws. Deckie Johnson tossed in a game high 21 points and snagged seven boards with Eric Katenda and Jeremy Combs adding 16 points each and a combined 15 rebounds.
USA TODAY Sports
If the Old Dominion Monarchs are going to do anything it will be because of a defense that allows a mere 62 points per contest. The Monarchs have been rather quiet until lately with three straight wins and wins in four of five. ODU is coming off of a 74-69, overtime victory at Charlotte Saturday as a ten point lead at the half went by the wayside before the team regrouped in OT. Trey Freeman saved the Monarchs with a game high 38 points on 1631 with Brandan Stith adding 14 points and ten rebounds on 7-10. This was really the Trey Freeman show but the rest of the team provided just enough scoring and held their own on the backboards.
North Texas are 5-13-1 ATS in their last 19 games overall and the over is 11-5 in their last 16 overall. ODU are 4-12-1 ATS in their last 17 games overall and the over is 9-3-1 in their last 13 overall while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 Thursday games. This is a complete risk of capital in my view…
