The Murray State Racers collide with the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars for the second time Thursday.
The Murray State Racers were supposed to duke it out with Belmont for supremacy in the Ohio Valley but this hasn’t been a typical year for the 12-12 Racers although many teams are better then anticipated which has had something to do with it. The Racers are coming off of a 76-73 defeat at the hands of visiting Austin Peay Saturday as an 8.5 point favorite. The Governors rallied over the final 20 minutes to overcome a seven point hole at the break behind 50% shooting and a 23-30 effort at the stripe. Murray countered with 44.8% accuracy with 12 more looks at the basket but a 7-22 mark on threes hurt them. Jeffery Moss kept the Racers alive with 27 points and six pulls on 8-13 with Gee McGhee scoring 12 while four others netted between 8-9 points.
USA TODAY Sports
Virtually nothing has gone right for the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars this season and a quick glance at their 4-19 record tells us all we need to know. The Cougars are currently in the midst of a five game slide capped off by a 79-62 drubbing to visiting Tennessee-Martin as a 2.5 point underdog Saturday. The Skyhawks led by three after 20 minutes before a dominant second half made this a laugher. UTM connected at a white hot 60.8% with the Cougars countering at 48% but that was too much of a difference to remain competitive. Jake Newton gave SIUE 15 points on 5-10 with Burak Eslik and Keenan Simmons adding 13 and ten points respectively.
The over is 13-5 in Murray State last 18 Thursday games. Murray State are 2-5-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings and the underdog is 5-2-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings. The Cougars have generally fared well ATS in this match up but I’d want more points to back them…
