The #17 Providence Friars hope to avoid the upset bid of the Georgetown Hoyas in Big East action.
The Georgetown Hoyas are trying to secure a top four spot in the Big East but ran in to a three game skid that threw a Monkey Wrench in to their plans. The Hoyas are hoping they are back on track after thrashing St. John’s 92-67 Monday as a 14 point home favorite. The Hoyas wasted no time in jumping to a 16 point lead at the half and then continuing to press the issue until the final buzzer. The Red Storm were 42.6% from the floor while Georgetown connected at 54% which equaled nine baskets. D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera led all scorers with 24 points with Isaac Copeland adding 23 points and eight boards on 8-11. LJ Peak netted 20 points and posted six pulls while Reggie Cameron tossed in 12 points and grabbed another six boards.

The Providence Friars are also in the running for atop four spot in the conference but the past few weeks have not been kind. The Friars have lost three straight and four of five capped off by a 96-91, double overtime defeat at Marquette on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles held a 42%-39% shooting edge but the number that really hurt Providence was 18 turnovers and missed opportunities in a game where a bounce or two makes a difference. The Friars were kept alive by an explosive 42 point, 12 rebound effort from Ben Bentil. Kris Dunn added 17 points, seven boards and six assists while Rodney Bullock and Junior Lomomba combined for 20 points.
The over is 18-6 in Providence last 24 Saturday games and the road team is 10-4 ATS in the last 14 meetings. This is not a clear cut decision with both having the ability to win so I’ll take the points…
