The UIC Flames improved to 4-19 (2-10 Horizon) on the season after defeating the Wright State Raiders, 64-59, this past Thursday. UIC was able to build a 50-43 lead midway through the 2nd half and was able to hang at the end of the game with some key FT’s from Dikembe Dixson and Najeal Young. UIC shot 48.9% from the field and outrebounded Wright State by a 43-33 margin. The Flames held the Raiders to 32.3% shooting from the field and 23.1% (6-26) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for UIC was Dikembe Dixson who had a double-double with 26 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal. On the season, the Flames have been led by Dikembe Dixson (18.0 ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.7 apg), Dominique Matthews (9.7 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.1 apg), and Tai Odiase (9.3 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.7 bpg). Offensively, UIC is averaging 66.0 ppg on 39.0% shooting from the field and 30.2% shooting from beyond the arc. The Flames average 4.2 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.79. Defensively, UIC is allowing their opponents to average 76.7 ppg on 43.2% shooting. The Flames have a rebound margin of 1.4 and a turnover margin of -3.2.
The Norse are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games however, just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400. The Flames are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up win and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Northern Kentucky struggled at the beginning of the season but has played much better as of late going 4-4 over the last 8 games with a solid win against Oakland on the road. It’s been a long season for UIC and head coach Steve McClain, but UIC has picked it up on the defense end as of late and won 2 of their last 3 games. Northern Kentucky has far surpassed expectations in their first season in the Horizon but UIC looked awful impressive recently in their victory over a good Wright State team and I think Dikembe Dixson and Tai Odiase will do enough on their home court to keep this one within the number. Take UIC and the points.
