Buffalo didn’t bring much of an effort in this one and was down by as many as 30 points in the 2nd half in the loss. Buffalo shot 43.1% from the field and 26.3% (5-19) from beyond the arc. The Bulls allowed the Bobcats to shoot 53.7% from the field and 56.0% (14-25) from three-point range. Akron vs. Buffalo - 2/16/16 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Akron Zips had their 7-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 20-5 (9-3 MAC East) on the season after being defeated by the Northern Illinois Huskies, 80-79, this past Saturday. Akron’s Isaiah Johnson hit two late FT’s to help the Zips take 79-78 lead with just 14 seconds remaining however, committed a foul with just 2 seconds on the clock that allowed the Huskies to hit two FT’s of their own to retake the lead and get the win. Akron shot 48.1% from the field and lost the turnover battle by a 13-7 margin. The Zips allowed the Huskies to shoot 42.0% from the field and was outrebounded by Northern Illinois by a 41-34 margin. Leading the way for Akron was Josh Williams who had 22 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assists, and a steal in the loss. On the season, the Zips have been led by Isaiah Johnson (12.8 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.3 bpg), Antino Jackson (11.5 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.2 spg), and Reggie McAdams (10.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg). Offensively, Akron is averaging 77.6 ppg on 43.8% shooting from the field and 39.6% shooting from beyond the arc. The Zips average 11.6 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.32. Defensively, Akron is holding their opponents to average 67.8 ppg on 40.9% shooting from the field. The Zips have a rebound margin of 9.8 and a turnover margin of 0.2.

The Bulls are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up loss and 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games after allowing more than 90 points in their previous game. The Zips are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 47-23 ATS in their last 70 home games.

Buffalo struggled on both sides of the ball in their recent game against Ohio and although their defense can be suspect, the Bulls have a well-balanced offense that ranks 111th in the country in scoring offense. Akron has a prefect 11-0 record at home this season and is one of the most dangerous teams from three-point range as they rank 14th in the country in 3P FG% and 2nd in three-pointers made per game. Akron is the team to beat in the MAC this season however, Buffalo was able to get the Zips a game at home earlier in the season and as the Bulls do a good job defending the three-pointer, I’m taking Buffalo and the points in this one.
