The Ball State Cardinals can hold on to the MAC West lead with a win versus the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks.
The Ball State Cardinals were not considered a threat in the preseason but the rest of the conference is keeping an eye on them now. The Cardinals have won three of four after a 75-63 victory at Central Michigan as an 8.5 point underdog on Saturday. A 43-32 second half run broke open a close contest behind strong play at both ends of floor with the Chippewas held to 37.5% from the floor while Ball State connected at 49% including a decisive 17-4 edge at the stripe. Bo Calhoun led the Cardinals with 22 points and 14 rebounds on 6-10 with Franko House added 15 points and five yanks. Ryan Weber tossed in 14 points while Jeremie Tyler and Francis Klapway combined for 18 points.

The Miami (Ohio) Redhawks are last in the MAC East which is directly related to their 9-16 record. That trend continued in a 93-49 defeat at Toledo Saturday that was never competitive with the Rockets leading 35-18 after 20 minutes. The Redhawks never found the shooting touch at 30% including a 7-27 mark from beyond the arc. On the flip side the Rockets burned the nets at over 56% with an 11-18 effort on three and a near perfect 20-22 performance at the stripe. Abdoulaye Harouna was Miami’s lone double digit scorer with eleven points on 3-6 from the floor with Kalif Wright and Ali Barnes contributing seven points apiece.
