The Belmont Bruins stay in the Ohio Valley race with a road win versus the Eastern Kentucky Colonels.
The Belmont Bruins were the favorite in the OVC East but it hasn’t been easy with the team battling Tennessee State for the division lead. A 2-3 record the past five times out hasn’t helped with a 78-77 defeat at Morehead State Saturday being especially painful. The Bruins appeared to have this one in the bag with a 14 point lead heading to the locker room before falling apart over the final 20 minutes. The Bruins burned the nets at 52% with the Eagles connecting at 45% with 18 offensive rebounds leading to 14 more looks at the basket. The Bruins received a game high 28 points on 11-23 from Craig Bradshaw with Evan Bradds tossing in 14 on 4-5. Taylor Barnette and Mack Mercer netted 12 points apiece with Mercer grabbing nine rebounds but the rest of the team did little.
The Eastern Kentucky Colonels could easily be challenging for supremacy for the Ohio Valley crown if not for numerous close games finding their way in to the loss column. The Colonels have dropped five of seven following a 79-78 loss to visiting Tennessee State as a two point favorite on Saturday. The Tigers hit at almost 48% with the 40% shooting Colonels staying competitive with 14 more shot attempts and a 13-31 effort on long balls. Ja’Mill Powell led EKU with a game high 25 points with six bombs while Jarelle Reischel added 13 points and seven boards. Isaac McGlone tossed in eleven points with Paul Jackson adding nine points and eight assists and Anthony Pratt contributing eight points and ten rebounds.
Belmont are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games. Eastern Kentucky are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall and are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 vs. Ohio Valley while the under is 14-6-1 in their last 21 vs. Ohio Valley. Neither team is great ATS the spread but Belmont needs to step up their game…
