The Appalachian State Mountaineers host the Troy Trojans in a Sun Belt tilt on Saturday afternoon.
The Troy Trojans have been playing some of their beast basketball the past few weeks but this is a case of too little, too late. The Trojans have won three of four to up their record to 4-11 in the conference after downing South Alabama 61-54 as a 2.5 point road dog on Tuesday. The Trojans opened the game with a 27-14 first half and then held off a Jaguars late comeback attempt. USA was held to 26% from the floor but 21 Troy turnovers helped lead the way to 25 more looks at the basket to prevent the blowout. Troy prevailed on 42.6% accuracy with a few more threes and free throws making the difference. Wesley Person Jr. saved the Trojans with a game high 28 points and seven boards on 11-20 with John Walton and Jordan Varnado combining for 17 points and 15 rebounds.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers seemed like they were going to be more of a factor in the Sun Belt but six consecutive defeats has the team staring at a 4-11 league mark. The Mountaineers defense let them down in a 75-71 home loss to South Alabama as a 5.5 point favorite Thursday where the Jaguars pulled away late. The Mountaineers connected at less then 31% with a 26-33 effort at the stripe keeping this competitive but the 43% shooting of USA accounted for five more baskets which was decisive. Frank Eaves gave ASU 27 points on 7-20 with Ronshad Shabazz netting 12 points on 5-12. Emarius Logan scored eleven while three others added between 5-6 points.
