The Fairfield Stags shoot for a road win against MAAC foe the Niagara Purple Eagles.
The Fairfield Stags are 4th in the MAAC with just three games remaining in the regular season so they control their own fate. The Stags are playing well with four straight victories after downing Canisius 76-71 as a four point road underdog on Thursday. The Stags rallied from a six point deficit at the half behind 50% shooting including a 10-24 mark from long range and six more free throws to edge the 43% shooting Golden Griffins who used 15 more shots to stay competitive. Tyler Nelson pumped in a game high 22 points on 7-11 from the floor with Marcus Gilbert adding 17 points and seven rebounds on 5-13. Curtis Cobb and Matjia Milin netted 15 and ten points respectively on a combined 10-18.

The Niagara Purple Eagles are hoping to avoid finishing at the bottom of the conference and they can do it by just winning in the last week of the season. The Purple Eagles had dropped five in a row before knocking off visiting Marist 76-72 as a five point favorite on Thursday. Niagara was up five at the break and traded baskets the rest of the way with 43% from the floor and eight more free throws holding off the 38% accuracy of the Red Foxes who were killed by their 6-29 effort on threes. Emile Blackmon paced the Niagara attack with a game high 21 points with Dominic Robb adding 13 points and ten rebounds. Cameron Fowler and Matt Scot each scored 12 points while Maurice Taylor chipped in with ten points.
Fairfield are 6-14 ATS in their last 20 Saturday games and are 2-8 ATS in the last 10 meetings. My take on this is Fairfield is playing well and have something to play for and if they don’t perform with a sense of urgency shame on them…
