The Oakland Golden Grizzlies will travel to the UIC Pavilion to take on the UIC Flames this Sunday night in College Basketball action.
The Oakland Golden Grizzlies had their two game winning streak snapped and dropped to 19-10 (11-5 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Valparaiso Crusaders, 86-84, this past Friday. Oakland was down by an 80-65 margin with just under five minutes to play and although they made a strong comeback to make it game at the end, couldn’t pull off the comeback victory. Oakland shot 46.4% from the field and 40.0% (8-20) from beyond the arc. The Golden Grizzlies allowed the Crusaders to shoot 44.3% from the field and lost the turnover battle by a 14-6 margin. Leading the way for Oakland was Kahlil Felder who had 26 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals. On the season, the Golden Grizzlies have been led by Kahlil Felder (24.4 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 9.2 apg, 2.1 spg), Jalen Hayes (13.9 ppg, 8.6 rpg), and Percy Gibson (11.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg). Offensively, Oakland is averaging 87.1 ppg on 45.7% shooting from the field and 39.6% shooting from beyond the arc. The Golden Grizzlies average 9.0 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.35. Defensively, Oakland is allowing their opponents to average 79.5 ppg on 43.3% shooting. The UIC Flames dropped to 5-21 (3-12 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Detroit Titans, 83-72, this past Friday. UIC gave Detroit a battle and had a 34-33 lead at halftime however, had trouble defensively in the 2nd half allowing the Titans to score 50 2nd half points in the loss. UIC shot 39.3% from the field and 20.0% (4-20) from beyond the arc. The Flames allowed the Titans to shoot 40.9% from the field and 38.9% (7-18) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for UIC was Dikembe Dixson who had 26 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. On the season, the Flames have been led by Dikembe Dixson (19.3 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.0 spg), Tai Odiase (10.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.2 bpg), and Paris Burns (6.9 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 2.5 apg). Offensively, UIC is averaging 67.7 ppg on 39.2% shooting from the field and 29.8% shooting from beyond the arc. The Flames average 4.3 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.80. Defensively, UIC is allowing their opponents to average 77.5 ppg on 42.6% shooting. The Flames have a rebound margin of 2.0 and a turnover margin of -3.4.
The Golden Grizzlies are 7-0-2 ATS in their last 9 road games vs. a team with a losing home record and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Sunday games. The Flames are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. the Horizon League.
Oakland wasn’t able to pull off the upset at Valparaiso and although they now have the highest scoring offense in the country, no longer have a shot at the regular season Horizon title. UIC has played much better as of late behind the strong performances of Dikembe Dixson and Tai Odiase however, have struggled throughout the season with turnovers and have no legitimate three-point threats. Oakland had no trouble with UIC at home earlier this season in a 86-61 victory, however, as the Grizzlies don’t have too much more to play for prior to the conference tournament, I think UIC will get enough out of Dixson and Odiase to cover with this large amount of points.
