The South Alabama Jaguars dropped to 12-16 (7-10 Sun Belt) on the season after being defeated by the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks, 66-59, this past Thursday. South Alabama was down by a 39-27 margin at halftime and although they were able to fight back with a 16-8 run late into the 2nd half, the Jaguars couldn’t get a defense stop late in the game to secure the victory. South Alabama struggled offensively as they shot just 33.9% from the field and 25.0% (4-16) from beyond the arc. The Jaguars allowed the Warhawks to shoot 38.3% from the field and loss the turnover battle by a 14-10 margin. Leading the way for South Alabama was Georgi Boyanov who had 13 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks, and a steal. On the season, the Jaguars have been led by Ken Williams (15.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 3.1 apg), Georgi Boyanov (11.1 ppg, 8.0 rpg), and Taishaun Johnson (10.2 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 2.0 apg). The Jaguars average 3.8 blocks per game and have a turnover margin of -1.5.
The Ragin Cajuns are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a ATS win. The Jaguars are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games following a ATS loss and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
Louisiana Lafayette has struggled a bit as of late losing 3 of their last 4 games but still have to be considered one of the favorites for the Sun Belt conference tournament as they have the best player in the conference in double-double machine, Shawn Long. South Alabama has played better as of late as they’ve won 3 of their last 5 games however, the Jaguars have struggled a bit on the offensive end this season as they rank just 269th in the country in scoring offense and 302nd in FG %. South Alabama has a 7-6 record at home with both some good wins (UT-Arlington) and some bad ones (Troy) however, they were able to give Louisiana Lafayette a decent game on the road earlier in the season and as they are holding teams to just 38.2% shooting over their last five games, I’m going to take the Jaguars and the points in this one. Take South Alabama and the points.
