The Georgetown Hoyas will travel to the Wells Fargo Center to take on the 3rd ranked Villanova Wildcats this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.

The Georgetown Hoyas lost their 5th straight game and dropped to 14-16 (7-10 Big East) on the season after being defeated by the Marquette Golden Eagles, 88-87, this past Tuesday. Georgetown was able to fight back from a 50-39 halftime deficit to take a 78-77 lead with 3:53 left to play, but Marquette’s Luke Fischer was able to hit two FT’s with just over a second to play to get victory for Marquette. Georgetown shot 52.2% from the field and 37.0% (10-27) from beyond the arc. The Hoyas allowed the Golden Eagles to shoot 61.8% from the field and 25.0% (3-12) from three-point range. Leading the way for Georgetown was Isaac Copeland who had 32 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, and a block. On the season, the Hoyas have been led by D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera (16.6 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 4.6 apg, 1.5 spg), L.J. Peak (11.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 1.7 apg), and Isaac Copeland (11.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.0 apg). Villanova vs. Georgetown - 3/5/16 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The 3rd ranked Villanova Wildcats won their 2nd straight game and improved to 26-4 (15-2 Big East) on the season after defeating the DePaul Blue Demons, 83-62, this past Tuesday. Villanova had little trouble with DePaul and was able to cruise to victory in the 2nd half after getting up by 18-points at halftime. Villanova shot 50.0% from the field and 45.2% (14-31) from beyond the arc in the victory. The Wildcats allowed the Blue Demons to shoot 46.9% from the field and won the turnover battle by a 17-5 margin. Leading the way for Villanova was Kris Jenkins who had 31 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist. On the season, the Wildcats have been led by Josh Hart (15.2 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.2 spg), Kris Jenkins (12.5 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.0 apg), and Daniel Ochefu (10.3 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.7 bpg). Offensively, Villanova is averaging 77.0 ppg on 46.6% shooting from the field and 33.5% shooting from beyond the arc. The Wildcats average 8.5 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.42. Defensively, Villanova is holding their opponents to an average of 63.0 ppg on 39.5% shooting. The Wildcats average 7.0 steals per game and have a turnover margin of 2.7.

The Hoyas are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record. The Wildcats are 17-7 ATS in their last 24 games following a ATS loss and 13-6 ATS in their last 19 games following a straight up win of more than 20 points.

Georgetown has been a disappointment this season and has struggled defensively as of late as over their last five games, the Hoyas are allowing their opponents to average 82.6 ppg. Villanova is one of the more well-balanced teams in the country and although they only have one loss at home this season, they are just 7-7 ATS at home. Villanova is an outstanding defensive team that can create turnovers however, Georgetown was able to keep their first matchup close, losing a tight 55-50 battle, and I just think this is too many points for the Wildcats to cover. I’m taking Georgetown and the points.
