Creighton was able to take a 32-28 lead at halftime but struggled defensively in the 2nd half and allowed Providence to use a late 11-6 run to win the game. Creighton shot 40.4% from the field and 38.1% (8-21) from beyond the arc. The Blue Jays held the Friars to 16.7% (4-24) from beyond the arc but loss the turnover battle by a 12-7 margin. The 5th ranked Xavier Musketeers had their four game winning streak snapped and dropped to 25-4 (13-4 Big East) on the season after being defeated by the Seton Hall Pirates, 90-81, this past Sunday. Xavier was able to put up 55 points in the 2nd half however, couldn’t overcome falling behind by a 45-26 margin by halftime in the loss. Xavier shot 39.0% from the field and was outrebounded by Seton Hall by a 44-39 margin. The Musketeers allowed the Pirates to shoot 50.0% from the field and 35.7% (5-14) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for Xavier was Trevon Bluiett who had 17 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. On the season, the Musketeers have been led by Trevon Bluiett (15.1 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.0 spg), Edmond Sumner (11.3 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 3.4 apg, 1.3 spg), and Myles Davis (10.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 4.0 apg). Offensively, Xavier is averaging 80.4 ppg on 45.2% shooting from the field and 35.6% shooting from beyond the arc. The Musketeers average 7.3 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.26. Defensively, Xavier is allowing their opponents to average 69.7 ppg on 41.0% shooting. The Musketeers have a rebound margin of 7.8 and average 7.3 steals per game.
The Blue Jays are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games following a ATS loss and 17-7-1 ATS in their last 25 vs. Big East opponents. The Musketeers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 home games.
Creighton has struggled a bit as of late, losing 3 of their last 4 games, and have struggled a bit offensively as in their last 5 games (which includes a 100-point showing against St. John’s), the Blue Jays are averaging 73.4 ppg which is about 6-points less than their season average. Xavier came out flat against Seton Hall but still should be in decent shape a top seed in the NCAA Tournament as the Musketeers have one of the better offensives in the country ranking 23rd in scoring offensive. Creighton was able to upset Xavier a few weeks ago on their home court, however, the Blue Jays have a losing record on the road this season, I think Xavier gets their revenge on the Blue Jay on their home court and cover this large spread. Take Xavier to cover.
