The Oakland Golden Grizzlies (21-10) used a high-power offensive attach led by one of the best point guards in the country in Kahlil Felder to finished the regular season with a 21-10 regular and earned the 2-seed in the Horizon Tournament with a 13-5 conference record. Oakland finished the season winning 4 of their last 5 games and was competitive against some of the power conferences during their non-conference schedule as they were able to notch a win at Washington and loss an OT-thriller at Michigan State. Leading the way for Oakland was Kahlil Felder who averaged 22.4 ppg, 9.4 apg, and 2.0 spg). Also chipping in for the Golden Grizzlies was Jalen Hayes (13.9 ppg, 8.8 rpg), Percy Gibson (11.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg) and Martez Walker (11.0 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.0 apg). Offensively, Oakland is averaging 87.3 ppg on 46.0% shooting from the field and 39.8% shooting from beyond the arc. The Golden Grizzlies average 9.0 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.36. Defensively, Oakland is allowing their opponents to average 79.5 ppg on 43.2% shooting. The Golden Grizzlies have a rebound margin of 3.4 and average 6.0 steals per game.
The Raiders are 4-9 ATS in thier last 13 games overall and 1-4 ATS in thier last 5 games following a ATS win. THe Golden Grizzlies are 24-4-1 ATS in thier last 29 games following a straight up win and 9-2-1 ATS inthier last 12 vs. Horizon League opponents.
During the regular season Oakland was able to easily defeat Wright State in both matchups as the Golden Grizzlies won 89-63 at home and 89-73 on the road. Wright State has the best defense in the Horizon and although they’ve had trouble slowing down the Golden Grizzlies in the regular season, the Raiders have looked outstanding on the defensive end against UIC and Detroit in their first two games in the conference tournament. Oakland has an outstanding offense that is driven by Kahlil Fielder and rank 12th in the country in three-point FG% and 8th in FG%. I imagine Oakland will be favored by about five points in this one and although I like how the Raiders have been playing, I think Kahlil Felder will show why he’s a Wooden Award Finalist and will led the Golden Grizzlies to a big win. The line has yet to be posted in this one but as long as the line is around five points in favor of Oakland, I’m leaning initially to take the Golden Grizzlies. Please check back for updates when the line is posted.
Update (12:12 PM EST) - The line is right around where I thought it would be and I'm going to stick with taking Oakland to hopefully repeat the success they had against Wright State in the regular season and cover this mid-range spread.
