The NC State Wolfpack and Duke Blue Devils will square off in the 2nd round of the New York Life ACC Men’s Tournament this Wednesday afternoon at the Verizon Center.
The 12-seed NC State Wolfpack was able to survive a back and forth battle to defeat the 13-seed Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 75-72, to advance to this game. The Wolfpack got three consecutive three-pointers by Maverick Rowan to help the Wolfpack get a 66-63 lead with just under 4-minutes to play and was able to hang with solid FT shooting from Anthony Barber to get the win. Leading the way for the Wolfpack was Anthony Barber who had 22 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. On the season, the Wolfpack have been led by Anthony Barber (23.4 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 4.3 apg), Abdul-Malik Abu (12.9 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 1.3 apg), and Maverick Rowan (12.5 ppg, 3.1 rpg). Offensively, NC State is averaging 74.8 ppg on 43.0% shooting from the field and 34.1% shooting from beyond the arc. The Wolfpack average 6.1 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.03. Defensively, NC State is allowing their opponents to average 73.9 ppg on 43.7% shooting. The Wolfpack have a rebound margin of 4.4 and have a turnover margin of -0.8.

The 19th ranked Duke Blue Devils couldn’t complete the regular season sweep of North Carolina this past Saturday and finished the season with a 22-9 record while earning the 5-seed in the ACC Tournament with a 11-7 ACC record. Duke is one of the better scoring teams in the country however, have really missed Amile Jefferson since losing him to injury and will come into the turnover with very little depth on the bench. On the season, the Blue Devils have been led by Grayson Allen (21.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.3 spg), Brandon Ingram (16.7 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.1 spg), and Marshall Plumlee (8.1 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 1.5 bpg). Offensively, Duke is averaging 81.2 ppg on 46.1% shooting from the field and 38.9% shooting from beyond the ac. The Blue Devils average 9.1 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.33. Defensively, Duke is allowing their opponents to average 71.1 ppg on 44.0% shooting. The Blue Devils average 4.2 blocks per game and have a turnover margin of 2.2.
The Wolfpack are 16-5-1 ATS in their last 22 Wednesday games and 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Blue Devils are 14-6 ATS in their last 20 games following a ATS loss however, just 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Duke was able to defeat NC State in their only matchup on the season as the Blue Devils snapped a mid-season three game losing streak with an impressive 88-78 victory at NC State. NC State has one of the best players in the country in point-guard, Anthony Barber, however, has a defense that can give up some points and doesn’t create many turnovers. Duke has an outstanding starting five led by Grayson Allen and star-freshman Brandon Ingram and as long their star players stay out of foul trouble, the Blue Devils can put up a lot of points as they rank 18th in the country in scoring offensive. The line has yet to be posted in this one and my pick is probably going to come down to how many points the Wolfpack will be getting as although I think Duke will be able to score at will agianst NC State, the Wolfpack do have impact players that could keep this one closer than expected. Please check back for updates when the line has been posted.
Update - I'm pretty torn on this one as although my intial gut iwasDuke, I'm a bit worried the Anthony Barber and Maverick Rowan will be able to do enough to cover with the be points. As I think this is going to be more of a high scoring game, I'm liking the over as the best pick in this one. My pick is the over.
