The New Orleans Privateers take the floor with the Southeastern Louisiana Lions in a Southland.
It has been several years or more but the New Orleans Privateers were one of the worse teams I had seen in quite awhile. Not now but I’m sure they know a 6-12 mark in the Southland and 10-19 overall record has room for improvement. The Privateers area score first squad at 75 points on 42% shooting but struggle defensively with 77 points allowed on over 45% so the issue is getting stops. UNO dropped seven of ten to end the regular season and generally scored well in to the 70’s so it looks as if success in the playoffs will depend on their scoring. Christavious Gill averages almost 15 points and Erik Thomas adds 12 points and seven boards and that has to continue. Kevin Hill and Nate Frye are 9+point scorers and if they can bump up their production the Privateers have a decent chance.
USA TODAY Sports
The Southeastern Louisiana Lions are right in the middle of the Southland standings at 9-9 with an overall 11-20 mark. The Lions numbers say they need more scoring and more defense as they have been outscored 76-71 and need both areas to bump up their numbers. The Lions seem to have turned things around over the past month with wins seven of ten where both ends of the floor have stepped up when needed. Zay Jackson is the lone double digit scorer at 12.5 points and four boards and it would be a big boost if he could knock down another basket or two but there are seven players that average 7-9.5 points and if a few reach double figures and the ‘D’ shows some stopping power this team could be dangerous.
The over is 13-5 in New Orleans last 18 neutral site games and Southeastern Louisiana are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games overall. Going over the numbers the Lions were hotter to end the season and have decent numbers against like opponents so if I had to back a team it would be them…
