The Idaho State Bengals match up with the North Dakota Fighting Hawks in a Big Sky quarterfinal.
The North Dakota Fighting Hawks were not considered a threat in the Big Sky but they are trying to change that after an opening round 85-80 victory versus Southern Utah has them in the quarterfinals. A 47-39 second half erased a three point deficit behind solid marksmanship and free throw shooting. The Thunderbirds held a slight 52.8%-52% shooting edge but a 25-17 advantage at the stripes was crucial for the fighting Hawks. Quinton Hooker saved North Dakota with a monster 30 points and eight boards on 8-13 with Drick Berstine adding 15 points and eight rebounds. Corey Baldwin and Cortez Seales combined for 21 points while Conner Avants chipped in with eight points.
USA TODAY Sports
The Idaho State Bengals survived to secure the number four seed in the Big Sky with the all important first round bye and a spot in the quarterfinals. The Bengals finished at 11-7 in the conference and 16-14 overall and could secure themselves a spot in another tournament with a good showing. ISU has been outscored 76-75 but have shown some ability to defend which would be a huge plus and relieve some of the burden from the offense. The Bengals have an elite scorer in Ethan Telfair who averages 20 points and four pulls with Geno Luzcando adding 14.5 points and another four boards. With Ali Faruq-Bey scoring 13 points the Bengals have a lot of punch offensively.
The over is 7-3 in North Dakota last 10 Thursday games. The over is 9-3 in Idaho State last 12 Thursday games and Idaho State are 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 games overall while going 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 Thursday games. The Bengals finished ahead of North Dakota but the Fighting Hawks seven straight in this match up. I am going with UND but feel like this is a trap type scenario…
