The 4th ranked Virginia Cavaliers (24-6) finished the regular season with a dominating performance of the Louisville Cardinals and earned the 2-seed after finishing conference play with a 13-5 record. Virginia has one of the best defenses in the country as the rank 2nd in scoring defense and 84th in defensive FG%. On the season, Virginia has been led by First-Team All American, Malcolm Brogdon, who along with his outstanding defense, averaged 18.4 ppg, 4.2 rpg, and 2.8 apg. Also chipping in for the Cavaliers has been Anthony Gill (13.6 ppg, 6.1 rpg), London Perrantes (11.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 4.4 apg, 1.1 spg), and Isaiah Wilkins (4.6 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.4 apg). Offensively, Virginia is averaging 70.7 ppg on 48.9% shooting from the field and 40.7% shooting from beyond the arc. The Cavaliers have a rebound margin of 3.7 and a turnover margin of 2.5.
The Yellow Jackets are 4-0 ATS in thier last 4 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 4-1 ATS in thier last 5 neutral site games. The Cavaliers are 7-1 ATS in thier last 8 games overall and 5-1 ATS in thier last 6 games following a ATS win.
Georgia Tech was able to pull off the upset of Virginia in the only regular season matchup of the two teams as the Yellow Jackets won a close 68-64 margin at home. The Yellow Jackets were outstanding over the final 10 minutes to get the comeback victory however, Virginia is playing to be a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament and I think that behind their defense, they get their revenge against the Yellow Jackets and get a big victory in this one. The line has yet to be posted but unless Virginia is favored by double-digits, I’m going to be backing the Cavaliers in this one.
Update (11:45 PM) - Virginia is favor right at 10 and but as I think the Cavaliers will win this won by double-digits, I'm sticking with Virginia to cover.
