The Wichita State Shockers battle the Vanderbilt Commodores Tuesday for the right to face Arizona.
The Wichita State Shockers won the regular season Missouri Valley conference but were booted from the postseason by Northern Iowa. The Shockers were a decent scoring team at 74 points but excelled defensively with 59 points allowed on around 38% shooting to make them the top ‘D’ in the game although the knock against them was too many softies in the league. Defense is always key but consistent scoring is also a must and the Shockers have two of the best guards in the game with Ron Baker and Fred VanVleet who average 14 and 12 points respectively with a combined 261 assists. This duo could take Wichita State to the next round if they play well and an earl exit otherwise.

The Vanderbilt Commodores were penciled in as a major contender to Kentucky in the SEC but they came up big in spots and not so much at other times. A first round defeat to Tennessee in the conference playoffs left their NCAA future in doubt and surprised some that they even made the field. The Commodores did have some very good numbers in a respected conference with almost 77 points scored on 46% shooting while limiting opponents to just over 67 points on 38.6% and whatever good this team does will likely be through the effort of Wade Baldwin IV who pumped in 14 points with over five assists and 1.2 steals.
The under is 8-2-1 in Wichita State last 11 overall and the Shockers are 16-6 ATS in their last 22 games overall. The over is 8-2 in Vanderbilt last 10 overall and the under is 6-2-1 in their last 9 non-conference games while the under is 16-6-1 in their last 23 neutral site games. I like the Shockers experience to prevail…
