The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns host the Texas A&M CC Islanders in a CIT tilt.
The Texas A&M CC Islanders have one of the best records in the country at 25-7 which nabbed them second in the Southland because they have the misfortune of having Stephen F. Austin in the conference. The Islanders outscored the opposition 73.6-69 which worked just fine in league play but they will always face the knock that the Southland was ripe for the taking. The Islanders have been involved in their share of fairly close contests and need quality efforts at both ends of the floor to succeed in the tournament with numerous teams on their talent level. Rashawn Thomas is the go to guy offensively at 16.6 points and eight rebounds with Hameed Ali, Bryce Douvier and Brandon Pyle scoring between 10-11 points.

The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns were one of the primary candidates to unseat Georgia State atop the Sun Belt but it turned out that Arkansas-Little Rock ran away with the title and ULL managed to squeeze in to 4th. UL Lafayette played the game at high speed and averaged almost 80 points on 44.4% marksmanship while giving up 73 points so the team was comfortable running the floor and lighting up the scoreboard. If the Ragin’ Cajuns do anything positive then future pro Shawn Long is likely the driving force after a season that saw him average 19.5 points and 12.5 rebounds. It’s score by committee after Long with Kasey Shepherd the lone DD scorer at 10.6 points.
The under is 11-4 in Texas A&M last 15 non-conference games and is 15-7 in their last 22 overall. If this turns in to a score fest then UL Lafayette has the advantage so the Islanders have to remain competitive with their defense and score as well. I’ll take the points for now and will dig further…
