The top ranked North Carolina Tar Heels face the upset minded Florida Gulf Coast Eagles in the Big Dance.
The North Carolina Tar Heels won the ACC regular season crown and the conference postseason to earn their number one ranking. The Tar Heels bring in a hefty 28-6 record which is all the more impressive considering how difficult their schedule was. Few teams possessed the offensive firepower of the Heels who lit up the scoreboard to the tune of 82 points on nearly 48% marksmanship while allowing 69.6 points. UNC has all the talent in the world and given their accomplishments are obviously the top choice to win the National Championship with Brice Johnson pacing the offense with over 16 points and 10.6 rebounds on 61.4% shooting. Justin Jackson, Marcus Paige and Joel each scoring 12+ points so there is no shortage of offensive options.

The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles gained notoriety as ‘Dunk City’ a few season’s ago and certainly looked the part in their 96-65 demolition of Fairleigh Dickinson in an NCAA play in game on Tuesday. The Knights were completely overmatched with a 40-19 deficit staring at them heading to the locker room before FGCU adding to the carnage over the final 20 minutes. FDU was held to33% from the floor to negate 13 more looks at the basket while the Eagles burned the nets at almost 60%. Marc-Eddy Norelia led the scoring spree with 20 points, ten rebounds and five assists with Julian DeBose and Christian Terrel added 14 points apiece with Terrell grabbing nine boards. Demetris Morant tossed in ten points while Antravious Simmons chipped in with nine points and nine pulls.
The Tar Heels are not Fairleigh Dickinson and Florida Gulf Coast obviously has their work cut out for them. No spread is out but it will be large enough to make me squirm because in years past I have seen North Carolina struggle in these types of games although this is one of the best teams they have assembled in recent memory. Whether UNC struggles or not, Dunk City is going home and I don't know if the Heels care if they win by 30 or 20 so no interest from me...
