The Virginia Tech Hokies look to slow down the Brigham Young Cougars in round two of the NIT.
The Virginia Tech Hokies drew a tough opening round test in Princeton and needed overtime to advance in an 86-81 decision as a four point favorite. The Tigers hit at just 40% but stayed close with nine more looks at the basket while the Hokies countered at 44% with 14 more makes at the charity stripe being decisive. VT received a game high 29 points and eleven rebounds on 10-16 from the floor with Jalen Hudson right on his tail with 28 points and eight boards on 10-18. Seth Allen chipped in with ten points while three others contributed between 5-6 points in what was really a two man attack.

The high powered Brigham Young Cougars are well known for their offensive prowess and proved why in their NIT opener. The Cougars breezed past Alabama-Birmingham 97-79 as a 9.5 point favorite behind a 51-30 first half explosion before trading baskets the rest of the way. The Blazers were held to 43% from the floor with the Cougars burning the nets at 55% including 13-30 from long range. Chase Fischer gave Brigham Young 27 points and six pulls on 10-20 followed by a 22 point, five assist effort from Nick Emery on 9-17. Kyle Collingsworth added 19 points, ten rebounds and 12 helpers while Kyle Davis and Zac Seljaas scored eleven and eight points respectively.
