The Miami Hurricanes take the floor with the Wichita State Shockers in round two of the NCAA’s.
As expected the Miami Hurricanes advanced to the Field of 32 after downing Buffalo 79-72. The Hurricanes threatened to pull away several times but the 14 point underdog Bulls wouldn’t go away. Buffalo connected at just under 4-% but stayed competitive thanks to a 10-24 effort from down town while the Hurricanes countered at 44% with ten more makes at the foul line being decisive. Angel Rodriguez paced the Canes attack with a game high 24 points and seven boards with Sheldon McClellan adding 20 points and five yanks. Kamari Murphy tossed in eleven points and snared 13 rebounds while Ja’Quan Newton and Davon Reed neted ten points apiece with Reed hauling in another 12 rebounds.

The Wichita State Shockers were expected to win the Missouri Valley and when they didn’t many believed they were fortunate to grab a spot in a play in game. The Shockers dominated Vanderbilt to advance to a first round match up whom they disposed of by a 65-55 count. The Shockers defense came up big by limiting the Wildcats to 41.7% and forcing 19 turnovers to make their 40.7% marksmanship and eleven more looks at the basket decisive and help ease the pain of a 3-20 effort from distance. Fred VanVleet paced the Shockers attack with 16 points and five steals with Ron Baker adding 13 points, five yanks and six helpers. Connor Frankamp and Markis McDuffie each scored ten points in a balanced offense but the defense won this game.
Wichita State went from a disappointing finish in the Missouri Valley to a spot in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Hurricanes didn’t always look good in their victory versus Buffalo but good teams win tough games. If the Shockers get enough points I’m not sure I could pass them up right or wrong…
