The shorthanded Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks take the hardwood with the Ball State Cardinals in CIT action.
The Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks entered their first round CIT bout with Central Michigan facing adversity with second leading scorer Myles Taylor was suspended. The Skyhawks didn’t miss a beat in a 76-73 victory over the Chippewas as nine point underdogs. The Chips sank shots 42.6% with a 15-43 mark on threes while UTM connected at 46% for a few more field goals with three more free throws. Alex Anderson paced the Skyhawks with 21 points with five bombs while Javier Martinez added 13 points and seven boards. The Ball State Cardinals were the top team in the MAC West before an early exit from the conference playoffs ended their season. The Cardinals picked up a first round 78-73, double overtime win at Tennessee State as a four point underdog and are hoping momentum is back on their side. In a two OT affair a bad bounce or two can be the difference so there wasn’t a glaring difference. The Cardinals road the scoring of Jeremie Tyler and his 25 points and five yanks with Ryan Weber adding 20 points and eight boards. Trey Moses followed with 13 points, 13 rebounds and six helpers while Sean Sellers chipped in with eight points and snared nine boards.
This doesn’t have a clear cut winner that jumps off the page at me and the suspension of Taylor is bound to hurt Tennessee-Martin at some point. It might kill them here but I prefer the points still and hope the Skyhawks are competitive…
