The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns have had zero trouble mowing down their first two opponents to reach the CIT quarterfinals. The Ragin’ Cajuns knocked off Furman 80-72 to advance to the quarters in a game that was never really on doubt as Furman trailed throughout and was staring at a 13 point hole heading to the locker room. ULL led the shooting battle 47%-43% but distanced themselves thanks to a 20-12 edge at the stripe where the Paladins were just 12-24. Kasey Shepherd paced the Ragin’ Cajun attack with 18 points and five yanks with Jay Wright and Devonta Walker netting 17 points apiece while Walker grabbed a game high 12 rebounds. Shawn Long chipped in with ten points with four players combining for 18 points.

The UC Irvine Anteaters were supposed to challenge for the Big West crown which they did but they saw their hopes of an NCAA bid die with a loss to Long Beach State in the conference playoffs. The Anteaters were an impressive 26-9 which earned them an invitation to the CIT where they needed overtime to knock off North Dakota 89-86. The Fighting Hawks hit shots at 42% with nine more free throws keeping them competitive with the 62% shooting Anteaters who sank nine more field goals. Luke Nelson was next in line with 18 points followed by a 15 point performance from Jaron Martin with each of the top four scorers hitting at least 50% of their looks.
Louisiana-Lafayette was supposed to challenge for the Sun Belt crown while UC Irvine was the team to beat in the Big West so both want to prove something. No line is out but the Ragin’ Cajuns at the Cajundome are tough so this should be a good one…
