The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will travel to play the Alabama Crimson Tide in a non-conference college basketball game on Friday.
The Alabama Crimson Tide finished last season with a record of 18-15 (8-10) and finished in 10th of the SEC standings. Alabama advanced to the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament and was able to play the NIT before losing to Creighton. Shannon Hale (10.8 points per game, 2.9 rebounds per game, and 0.5 assists per game) was the 2nd leading scorer from Alabama’s team last season and will be returning this season. Riley Norris and Jimmie Taylor are also returning and should provide valuable talent and experience to the Crimson Tide. Alabama struggled on offense last season and will have to replace their leading scorer in order to improve upon their offensive struggles. Alabama has an uphill battle this season but still should finish above .500 this season.

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers finished last season with a record of 21-12 (12-6) and finished with a loss in the CIT against UC Irvine. Coastal Carolina has moved to the Sun Belt Conference this season, which will be interesting to see how they match up and play against conference opponents that they are not familiar with. Elijah Wilson (13.7 points per game, 4 rebounds per game, and 0.9 assists per game) was the leading scorer for Coastal Carolina and will be returning this season. Jaylen Shaw (11.1 points per game, 2.3 rebounds per game, and 3.9 assists per game) was the 4th leading scorer in 2015-2016 and will also return to the team this year. Coastal Carolina did lose some talent from last year’s team, but should find success against a weak Sun Belt Conference this season.
Coastal Carolina is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Friday games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games. The under is 7-0 in Coastal Carolina’s last 7 non-conference games. Alabama is 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against the Sun Belt. The under is 5-1 in Alabama’s last 6 non-conference games.
Coastal Carolina does return some talent from last season, while Alabama lost their leading scorer and struggled on offense last season. With Alabama being at home, I like them to win this game, but I am picking Coastal Carolina to keep it closer than the spread.
