The Sacramento State Hornets will travel to the Coors Events Center to take on the Colorado Buffaloes this Friday night in College Basketball action.
The Sacramento State Hornets finished the 2015-16 season with a 14-17 overall record and placed 10th in the Big Sky Conference. Sacramento State lost one of their best players in Cody Demps (9.8 ppg, 5.1 rpg) however, the Hornets should be an improved team this season as they return 4 starters including Justin Strings (15.5 ppg, 6.7 rpg). Besides Justin Strings, Marcus Graves (12.2 ppg, 4.4 apg), Nick Hornsby (7.8 ppg, 6.9 rpg), and Eric Stuteville (8.0 ppg, 4.7 rpg) are the returning starters for the Hornets. The Hornets will also return a key reserve from last year’s squad in Jeff Wu (6.2 ppg, 1.3 rpg) and will hope that incoming Freshman Chibueze Jacobs, Joshua Patton and Izayah Mauriohooho-Le`afa can provide the Hornets with some significant minutes this season.

The Colorado Buffaloes were able to make it back to NCAA Tournament last season and although they no longer have big man Josh Scott, Coach Tad Boyle will basically have the majority of last year’s 22-win team back. Replacing Josh Scott (16.3 ppg, 8.8 rpg) will be difficult for Boyle however, with George King (13.6 ppg, 4.7 rpg), Wesley Gordon (7.2 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 2.0 bpg), and Dominique Collier (7.5 ppg, 2.7 apg) are all returning starters for the Buffaloes. Colorado should be a very experienced team as along with their returning starters, Colorado will be returning Josh Fortune (10.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg) and welcoming D-II transfer, Derrick White, who was an All-American twice at CU-Colorado Springs. Colorado will be lacking some size but do have two freshman big men in Dallas Walton and Lucas Siewert who could make some solid contributions this season.
The Hornets are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games vs. Pac-12 opponents however, just 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Buffaloes are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games.
Colorado might be lacking a standout star on their roster, but the Buffaloes are a talented team that should once again compete for a Pac-12 Championship and earn themselves a NCAA bid. Sacramento State is certainly not on the same level as the Buffaloes however, the Hornets should be an above average team in the Big Sky conference as they enter the 2016-17 season with an experienced roster. I really like this Colorado team this year, however, this seems like a lot of points for the Buffaloes to cover and as I think the Buffaloes might let up on the gas once they have this game in hand, I’m taking Sacramento State and the points in this one.
