The Austin Peay Governors and Dayton Flyers open the 2016-17 college basketball season Friday night at the University of Dayton Arena.
The Austin Peay Governors look to build on a solid 18-18 season that led to a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Josh Robinson returns after averaging 16.9 points and 2.6 assists while Kenny Jones averaged 7.9 points and 5.3 rebounds. Jared Savage grabbed three rebounds per game and John Murry played 293 minutes last season. The Austin Peay Governors lost their top player in Chris Horton, but they do still have a game changer in Robinson and there’s a lot of valuable depth returning. Austin Peay will once again be a factor in the OVC and of course still have the stability of long time coach Dave Loos. The Austin Peay Governors have won their last three road games.

The Dayton Flyers hope to make the NCAA Tournament for a fourth straight season under head coach Archie Miller. Charles Cooke returns after averaging 15.6 points and 5.8 rebounds while Scoochie Smith averaged 11.7 points and 4.3 assists. Kendall Pollard was a third double-digit scorer and Kyle Davis dished 2.1 assists per game. The Dayton Flyers return a ton of key players from last season and have a roster that includes six seniors. If there was ever a season for Dayton to really make a deep run and push for some big time success, it would probably be this year. Dayton is certainly a team to watch coming out of the Atlantic 10. The Dayton Flyers have won six of their last eight home games.
The Governors are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Flyers are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 vs. Ohio Valley and 1-9-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The under is 4-1-1 in Flyers last 6 non-conference games and the over is 36-17-2 in Governors last 55 overall.
I'm high on Dayton this season with all of the talent returning, and the Flyers usually play good basketball on their home court. Austin Peay will have a say in the OVC this season and should push for possibly 20 wins, but I don't like the Governors on the road against this Dayton team. Give me the Flyers in a blowout.
