The Indiana Hoosiers and Kansas Jayhawks open the 2016-17 college basketball season Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center on ESPN.
The Indiana Hoosiers are fresh off a trip to the Sweet 16 and may have the most talented team Tom Crean has ever had in Bloomington. James Blackmon Jr. returns after averaging 15.8 points and 4.2 rebounds while Thomas Bryant averaged 11.9 points and 5.8 rebounds. Robert Johnson dished 3.1 assists per game and Collin Hartman grabbed 3.1 rebounds per game. Indiana did lose its floor general in Yogi Ferrell, but the return of Blackman and Bryant in the paint gives the Hoosiers one of the better 1-2 punches in college basketball. The Indiana Hoosiers have national championship potential and an early nationally televised game can prove that early this season. The Indiana Hoosiers have split their last eight neutral site games.

The Kansas Jayhawks made the elite eight last season and once again enter as a national championship contender. Frank Mason III returns after averaging 12.9 points and 4.6 assists while Devonte' Graham averaged 11.3 points and 3.3 rebounds. Landen Lucas grabbed 6.8 rebounds per game and Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk shot 45 percent from the field. Kansas also brings in a top-two recruit in guard Josh Jackson, who has the potential to turn into a star at some point this season. Yes, the Perry Ellis era is finally over in Kansas, but the Jayhawks are loaded from top to bottom and should be the favorites to win the Big 12 once again this season. The Kansas Jayhawks have won nine of their last 10 neutral site games.
The Hoosiers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Jayhawks are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 neutral site games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The under is 16-7-1 in Jayhawks last 24 overall.
This is going to be a hell of a matchup that should probably be closer to a pick em. We all know about Kansas and the talent that's returning, but lets not forgot how great Blackmon was before his injury and the fact Bryant may be the best player in the Big Ten. Indiana is once again going to be a scoring machine and it may not be wise to give this team free points. I have to side with the Hoosiers based on the value.
