The Indiana State Sycamores will travel to the NIU Convocation Center to take on the Norther Illinois Huskies this Friday night in College Basketball action.
The Indiana State Sycamores had underachieving 2015-16 season and although they did lose a few key starters, Coach Lansing will bring back one of the better players and backcourts in the MVC. The Sycamores lost G Devonte Brown (15.5 ppg, 4.9 rpg) and Khristian Smith (10.0 ppg, 5.2 rpg) but do return All-MVC player, G Brenton Scott who averaged 14.6 ppg while grabbing 4.1 rpg. Also returning for Indiana State are starters Matt Van Scyoc (7.8 ppg, 3.2 rpg) and Brandon Murphy (4.8 ppg, 4.2 rpg). Indiana State will be led by their backcourt, but will have plenty of depth down low with Emondre Rickman and Niels Bunschoten coming off their bench. Indiana State will hope that Bronson Kessinger and Donovan Franklin will be able to provide some energy from off the bench.

The Northern Illinois Huskies and Coach Mike Montgomery will hope that the Huskies can continue the momentum’s from last year’s 20-win season and trip to the Vegas 16. Montgomery lost two starters in Travon Baker (11.0 ppg, 3.7 apg) and Michael Orris (2.7 ppg, 3.0 apg) however, returns two of the better players in the MAC in Marin Maric (11.9 ppg, 8.4 rpg) and Aaric Armstead (10.9 ppg, 5.7 rpg). Northern Illinois will also return sharpshooter, Marshawn Wilson who averaged 11.0 ppg and shot 41.3% from beyond the arc. Northern Illinois will also get Dontel Highsmith who will be returning from injury and could provide some scoring depth for the Huskies. Northern Illinois will hope that incoming freshman, Eugene German, who was one of the better high-school players in Indiana, will be able to make an immediate impact for the Huskies.
The Sycamores are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games however, just 1-8 ATS in their last 9 road games. The Huskies are 22-7-3 ATS in their last 32 home games however, are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games.
Indiana State will need to rely on Brenton Scott heavily for the Sycamores to be competitive this season, however, as Northern Illinois is a well-rounded team with multiple weapons and experience, I think the Huskies will be able to rack up another 20 wins this season starting with a convincing victory over Indiana State. Take Northern Illinois to cover this mid-range spread at home.
