The Bowling Green Falcons will travel to the Athletics Center O’rena to take on the Oakland Golden Grizzlies this Friday night in College Basketball action.
The Bowling Green Falcons finished the season with just a 16-18 record however, there is some reason for optimism for the Falcons as they made a strong push in the MAC conference tournament last season beating both Kent State and Central Michigan before losing to the Akron Zips in the semifinals. Bowling Green lost their best player in Spencer Parker (14.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg) however, the Falcons do return three starters in Zack Denny (10.6 ppg, 6.1 rpg), Wes Alcegaire (10.2 ppg), and Rasheed Worrell (7.1 ppg, 4.6 rpg). Bowling Green will hope to see continued improvement from Antwon Lillard who entered the starting line-up until late in the season and averaged 17.0 ppg & 4.7 rpg during the MAC Tournament. Ismail Ali (5.4 ppg, 3.8 apg) should play more of a part in the Falcons offense and Bowling Green will help newcomers Dylan Frye and Rodrick Caldwell will be able to help provide the Falcons with additional scoring options.

The Oakland Golden Grizzlies and head coach Greg Kampe will need to replace the 2015-16 Horizon Player of the Year in Kay Felder (24.4 ppg, 9.3 apg, 4.3 rpg) however, with a lot of incoming talent, the Golden Grizzlies should once against be one favorites to win the Horizon this season. Along with Kay Felder, Oakland also lost Percy Gibson who averaged 11.3 ppg & 6.2 rpg. Returning for the Golden Grizzlies is Jalen Hayes (13.1 ppg, 8.6 rpg), Sharron Dorset-Walker (6.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg), and Nick Daniels (6.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg). Oakland will welcome two talents transfers in Stevie Clark (Oklahoma State) and Kendrick Nunn (Illinois) who were both dismissed from their respected programs. Coach Kampe will have a very talented backcourt but will need to hope that Xavier Hill-Mais (3.0 ppg, 2.1 rpg) and Brad Brechting (1.7 ppg, 1.9 rpg) can make significant improvements this upcoming season.
The Falcons are 23-8 ATS in their last 31 games vs. Horizon League opponents however, just 2-7 ATS in their last 9 road games. The Golden Grizzlies are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Friday games.
Oakland lost one of the better players in all of College Basketball in Kay Fielder but the Golden Grizzlies still have one of the most talented rosters in the Horizon with the addition of Stevie Clark and Kendrick Nunn. Bowling Green could have trouble finding ways to score the basketball this season without having Spencer Parker in the lineup and although Oakland hasn’t been known for their defense, I think the Golden Grizzlies will do enough to be able to cover this large spread at home. Take Oakland to cover.
