Coming up on Sunday from the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, we’ve got more college basketball action looming as the IUPUI Jaguars take on the Michigan Wolverines.
IUPUI is coming off a loss in their first game of the year, dropping a 10-point affair to Eastern Kentucky 97-87. In that one, the Jaguars allowed 24 points and eight rebounds to Nick Mayo (last year’s Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year), as well as 21 points to Asante Gist. Eastern Kentucky bagged a whopping 45 points from the free-throw line, which pretty much cemented their victory over IUPUI, who was outscored 42-28 in the first half.
USA TODAY Sports
As for the Jaguars, Darrell Combs led the way in scoring with 28 points, four assists and a steal, while Kellon Thomas (11 points), Ron Patterson (11 points) and TJ Henderson (10 points) were in double-figures for the game.
Over on the Michigan Side, they’re fresh off a 76-58 win over Howard on Friday. In that one, the Wolverines were ahead 34-25 at the break, but pulled away for a 42-33 score in the second half.
Derrick Walton Jr. led the Wolverines in scoring with 20 points in 35 minutes, adding three steals and three assists for good measure. Mark Donnal and Zak Irvin were also in double-figures for Michigan; Donnal posted 12 points and six rebounds while Irvin snagged 11 points, five rebounds and three assists.
IUPUI is 6-1 ATS in their last seven Sunday games, and 5-1 ATS in their last six games following an ATS loss. IUPUI is also 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games versus a team with a winning home record, and 1-6 ATS in their last seven non-conference games.
As for Michigan, they’re 4-0 ATS in their last four versus Summit, and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall. Michigan is also 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a straight-up win, and 1-4 ATS in their last five games at home versus a team with a losing road record.
Michigan didn’t really have a whole lot of trouble with Howard on Friday, and they should come into this one confident. I like Walton and Irvin to take over this game and guide the Wolverines to a victory, as IUPUI doesn’t really have an answer for either one. . I’ll take Michigan to cover.
