Coming up on Sunday from the JQH Arena in Springfield, the Jacksonville State Gamecocks will be taking on the Missouri State Bears in college basketball action.
Jacksonville State comes into this game with a 1-0 record, following an 84-73 win over the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes on Friday. In that one, the Gamecocks were in control pretty much the whole game, posting a 38-28 advantage in the first half and a 46-45 tally in the second to cruise to an 11-point win.
USA TODAY Sports
Malcolm Drumwright led Jacksonville State in their victory with 20 points, six assists and two rebounds, while Greg Tucker put-up 17 points in 36 minutes alongside a rebound and an assist. Nobertas Giga and Erik Durham also doubled up in the scoring column for the Gamecocks; Giga had 13 points with eight rebounds and an assist, and Durham managed 10 points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Over on the Missouri State side, they’re entering play here with a 1-0 record as well. The Bears were likewise in control wire to wire in their opening game on Friday against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs, posting a 45-32 advantage in the first half and a 51-30 mark in the second on the way to a 96-62 blowout.
Austin Ruder led the way for the Bears in their opening victory, bagging 18 points and a rebound in 22 minutes. Jarred Rhodes and Alize Johnson each scored 16 points for Missouri State; Rhodes collected seven rebounds and an assist while Johnson picked up six rebounds and three assists. In total, six Missouri State players were in double-figures scoring for the game in a nice well-rounded effort.
Jacksonville State is 7-1 ATS in their last eight games following a straight-up win, and 6-1 ATS in their last seven road games. Jacksonville State is also 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS win, and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games versus a team with a winning home record.
Meanwhile, Missouri State is 13-30 ATS in their last 43 non-conference games, and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall. Missouri State is also 7-22-1 ATS in their last 30 Sunday games, and 1-4 ATS in their last five versus Ohio Valley.
Both teams looked pretty good in their opening games, but Missouri State seemed to put up a more complete outing with contributions from across the board. Rhodes and Johnson should control the boards here, cutting down on second-chance points for Jacksonville State. I’ll take Missouri State to cover here, provided the line isn’t too bad.
