The Sacramento State Hornets will travel to Pinnacle Bank Arena to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers this Sunday night in College Basketball action.
The Sacramento State Hornets dropped their opening game of the season after falling to the Colorado Buffaloes, 90-53, this past Friday. Sacramento State struggled on both sides of the ball and had no chance of coming back after falling behind by a 42-19 margin at halftime. Leading the way for the Hornets was Nick Hornsby who had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. The Hornets returning 4 starters from last year’s team including Justin Strings (15.5 ppg, 6.7 rpg) and Marcus Graves (12.2 ppg, 4.4 apg) however, the Hornets had trouble finding the scoreboard as they shot just 29.4% from the field and just 9.1% (2-22) from beyond the arc. Sacramento State will hope that Jeff Wu (6.2 ppg, 1.3 rpg) and returning starter Edward Stuteville (8.0 ppg, 4.7 rpg) will be able to be solid role players this season.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers finished the 2015-16 with a disappointing 16-18 (6-12 Big Ten) record and will have their work cut out this season after losing some major pieces from last teams squad. Coach Tim Miles lost his two best players in Shavon Shields (16.8 ppg, 5.1 rpg) who graduated and Andrew White III (16.6 ppg, 5.9 rpg) who decided over the summer to transfer. Returning for the Cornhuskers will be starters Glynn Watson Jr. (8.6 ppg, 2.4 apg) and Michael Jacobson (4.7 ppg, 4.3 rpg). Nebraska will be relying on Tai Webster (10.1 ppg, 4.1 rpg) who had a great offseason playing for the New Zealand team in Olympics will be looked upon to become the leader for the Cornhuskers. Nebraska will hope that Louisville transfer, Anton Gill, and incoming freshman Isaiah Roby will be able to provide immediate contributions.
The Hornets are 7-1-2 ATS in their last 10 Sunday games however, just 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 road games. The Cornhuskers are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games.
Sacramento State had a tough matchup to open their season playing in Colorado in Boulder and although they aren’t projected to be a major player in the Big Sky this season, they will be a better team than what we saw against the Buffaloes. Nebraska could be in for a long season after losing Shields and White III and although Tai Webster could be in for a big season, the Cornhuskers are quite a young and unproven team. Nebraska should be able to pick up a win here at home however, as I think this line is a bit inflated based on the Hornets first game, I’m taking Sacramento State and the points in this one.
