The Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the Drexel Dragons face off on Sunday in opening weekend college basketball action.
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are off to a 1-0 start after beating Molloy 86-57 in their opener. Rutgers shot 48.3 percent from the floor and 31.8 percent from beyond the 3-point arc as well as grabbing a 14 rebound edge on the boards to dominate their over matched opponent. Mike Williams led the Scarlet Knights with 17 points in 22 minutes in the win. Rutgers was also helped by Nigel Johnson with 14 points and 5 rebounds, DeShawn Freeman had 13 points and 10 rebounds, and C.J. Gettys had 11 points and 6 rebounds. It’s tough to gauge too much from Rutgers win as their opponent really doesn’t even register on the college basketball landscape.

The Drexel Dragons opened their 2016-2017 college basketball season with a loss as the fell to Monmouth 78-65 in their opener. Drexel shot just 31.7 percent from the floor and 30 percent from beyond the 3-point arc as they turned the ball over 16 times. Kuk Lee led the Dragons with 17 points and 5 rebounds in 27 minutes in the loss. Sammy Mojica had 13 points and 7 rebounds for Drexel, Rodney Williams had 9 points and 10 rebounds, and Kari Johnson had 9 points. Drexel trailed by 15 points at the half and were only able to cut into the lead 2-points in the end.
Rutgers is 1-6 against the spread in their last 7 games, 1-4 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 5-2 against the spread following a win. Drexel is 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 games, 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 road games, and 1-4 against the spread on the road against a team with a winning home record.
I have little faith in Rutgers and laying 8-points against a team you don’t have to look up on the Internet to see if it really exists isn’t something I am comfortable doing so I will take the points with Drexel.
