The Tennessee State Tigers will travel to the Leavey Center to take on the Santa Clara Broncos this Sunday night in College Basketball action.
Tennessee State improved to 2-0 on the season after they were able to pull out a 69-65 victory over the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks late last night. Tennessee State struggled from beyond the arc hitting just 7.1% of their three-pointers, however, was outstanding on the defense end as they held Northern Arizona to just 29.3% shooting from the field. Leading the way for Tennessee State was Tahjere McCall who had 16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocks. McCall, who is a one of the best players in the Ohio Valley Conference is off to a great start to this season as in his two games he is averaging 18.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 5.0 apg, 5 spg, and 1.5 bpg. Tennessee State also has a great in their frontcourt in Wayne Martin who is averaging a double-double (13.0 ppg, 12.0 rpg) early in the season. Also contributing for the Tigers has been Ken’darrius Hamilton (10.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg), Jordan Reed (8.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg), and Darreon Reddick (6.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.5 apg).

Santa Clara dropped to 1-1 on the season after being defeated by the UC Davis Aggies, 63-58, last night. In a back and forth game, UC Davis used a 6-0 run in the 2nd half to create some separation and the Broncos couldn’t could fight back. Santa Clara struggled from beyond the arc hitting just 20.8% (5-24) of their three-pointers and lost the turnover battle by a 17-12 margin. Leading the way for Santa Clara was Henrik Jadersten who scored 17 points to go along with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks. Santa Clara was able to hire long-time coach Herb Sendek to help get the Broncos to contend in the WCC and coach Sendek should be able to have some success early as the Broncos returned all five starters including Jared Brownridge (13.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 4.0 apg, 1.5 spg). Jarvis Pugh (15.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 2.5 spg) and Kai Healy (6.5 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 1.0 apg) have looked good early in the season.
The Tigers are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 Sunday games and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS loss. The Broncos are 3-10-1 ATS in their last 14 non-conference games and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games.
Santa Clara has the advantage playing on their home court in this one however, as Broncos lack depth and have played only 8 players over their first two games, I think Santa Clara might be a bit sluggish in this one as this would be their 3rd game in three days. Tennessee State has a great duo in Tahjere McCall and Wayne Martin and as the Broncos lack size, I think the Tigers will be able pull this one out. Take Tennessee State to win.
