On Sunday in college basketball activity, the SIU Edwardsville Cougars will take on the Florida Atlantic Owls in Honolulu.
SIU Edwardsville comes into this game with a 1-0 record so far, thanks to their eking out a 69-68 win over Hawaii on Friday. In that one, the Cougars were up by 11 in the middle of the second half but allowed a 16-4 run that turned the game into a real nail-biter.

Tre Harris led the way for SIU Edwardsville in Friday’s game, logging a team-high 13 points with three rebounds, one assist and one steal. Burke Eslik also hit double-digits for the Cougars with 11 points and a rebound, while Christian Ellis managed 10 points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals with two blocks.
Over on the Florida Atlantic side, they’re entering play here with an 0-1 record following a 61-57 loss to the Texas State Bobcats on Friday evening. The Owls led 26-24 at the half, but were outscored in the second 37-31 to seal the Texas State victory.
Florida Atlantic got some pretty even scoring across their top guys. Adonis Filer led the Owls with nine points, two rebounds, one assist and two steals, while Marcus Neely managed eight points and six assists. Nick Rutherford (four rebounds; three assists) and William Pfister (seven rebounds; assist; steal) each scored eight points as well for Florida Atlantic.
SIU Edwardsville is 4-0 ATS in their last four non-conference games, and 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a straight-up win. SIU Edwardsville is also 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS win, and 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games versus a team with a winning percentage below .400.
Meanwhile, Florida Atlantic is 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games versus a team with a winning percentage above .600, and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall. Florida Atlantic is also 1-6 ATS in their last seven Sunday games, and 1-8 ATS in their last nine non-conference games.
We didn’t see a whole lot offensively from Florida Atlantic in their first game, and as such the Owls looked a little sluggish out on the court. We’re still trying to figure out what type of team SIU Edwardsville will be, but the early indications make it unlikely they’ll have too much trouble with the Owls. I’ll take the Cougars to cover here.
