The Charlotts 49ers take to the road for the first time as they take on the Elon Phoenix on Monday night.
The 49ers were involved in a shootout with NCAA D-II foe Newberry, defeating the Wolves by a final score of 101-88. Jon Davis led the 49ers with a strong opening game, putting up 28 points on 9 of 12 shooting, including making all 3 of his attempts from behind the arc, and all 7 of his attempts from the foul line. Davis was one of 3 49ers with 20+ points in the win, as Braxton Ogbueze put up 22 points on 7 of 14 shooting while making all 6 of his free throws to go along with a pair of 3s, while the stud from behind the arc in the opening contest was guard Andrien White. White made 6 of 13 3-point attempts, and 7 of 17 on the night to log 20 points for Charlotte. As a team after their first game, Charlotte is shooting just under 53% from the floor, over 40% from 3-point range and 75% from the charity stripe.

The Elon Phoenix also kicked off their season with an opening night victory, with a 101-68 over D-III opponent William Peace. Tyler Seibring led the Phoenix with 19 points on 8 of 12 shooting, including 3 for 5 from behind the arc to go along with 8 rebounds in the game. Dainan Swoope followed closely behind, putting up 16 points on 5 of 12 shooting with a pair of 3s while making all 4 of his free throw attempts. Seibring and Swoope made up 2 of the 5 Phoenix players who logged at least 10+ points on the night as Brian Dawkins, Sheldon Eberhardt and Dmitri Thompson each had 11 points, while Thompson flirted with a double-double after pulling down 9 rebounds. As a team, Elon is making just under 56% from the field, 34.5% from behind the arc, while improvements can be made at the foul line where Elon is shooting just 55.6% after the first game.
Charlotte is 16-7 ATS in their last 23 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 non-conference games. Elon is 11-30 ATS in their last 41 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. C-USA while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 overall.
Both of these teams played opponents in their openers that aren’t D-I programs, but Charlotte played a higher quality opponent than Elon. I personally think we are getting points with the better team here, so I will back Charlotte who will be out to avenge their loss to Elon last season.
Take Charlotte and the points.
