The Texas-Arlington Mavericks head north to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Monday night.
The UT-Arlington Mavericks kicked off their season on a high note with an 89-82 victory over in-state rival Texas Southern. Jalen Jones led the way with 23 points on 10 of 16 from the floor including 3 makes on 6 attempts from beyond the arc as Jones was one of 4 Mavericks to post at least 10 points on the night. Perhaps the most impressive statline of the night came from guard Kaelon Wilson, who connected on all 8 of his shot attempts for 19 points in the game while Kevin Hervey posted a double-double, logging 16 points on 4 of 11 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds in the contest. Rounding out the foursome was Erick Neal who flirted with a double-double, posting 10 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds in the win. As a team, Arlington is shooting 51.6% from the field, however just under 21% from 3-point range. The Mavericks are also shooting 74% from the charity stripe after making 20 of 27 free throws on opening night.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers took care of business on opening night, defeating the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns by a final score of 86-74. Former Illinois State center Reggie Lynch had a solid outing in his Minnesota debut, putting up 10 points and 8 boards in just 19 minutes of action on 4 of 6 shooting including a pair of free throws. Lynch found himself in a group of 5 Gophers who put up at least 10 points on the night with Dupree McBrayer and Nate Mason who both tallied 15 points, Amir Coffey who had 13 points and Akeem Springs who put up 11. Minnesota may have only taken 53 shots in the game while making 27 of them, but they definitely made the most of them as they connected on 10 of 25 attempts from beyond the arc. The Gophers also made getting to the charity stripe a point of emphasis in the opener, which they did, connecting on 22 of 32 free throws on the night. After their first game, Minnesota is shooting just under 51% from the floor, including 40% from 3-point range and just under 69% from the foul line.
UT-Arlington is 16-5 ATS in their last 21 non-conference games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Minnesota is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 vs. the Sun Belt.
This could end up being one of the better games on the schedule on Monday night. With that said, Minnesota was one of my sleeper teams in the Big Ten at the start of the season and I think they have enough to pull out a win here.
Minnesota and the low line is the play here.
